Day 4, Fearns Hall circa 1696
There was a Mansion House on this site built 1557. This Hall or Farmhouse, dated 1696 (inset)
renovated c.1975, with additions (Fearns Hall Farmhouse) dated 1830; now 2
houses. They are built of Sandstone rubble with quoins ( wall corner stones) tiled roofs with gable chimneys. It has stone mullion and
transom windows, mullion windows are windows without frames where the glass is cemented to the stone.
Yay, I'm able to get back in again. What an incredible building. If it would be an easy thing, I would move to Europe in a heartbeat. I love all these places that have such soul and surely amazing stories.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful house. I love how you've made all the textures come out so well. Great job
ReplyDeleteIt is such a gorgeous old place, but somehow I wonder if it is cold inside? When they are this old are the inhabited, and maybe reworked to modern codes?
ReplyDeleteThe walls of these buildings are about 2 feet thick and in winter keep the heat in and in summer keep the heat out. the greatest heat loss is through the roof and most houses have well insulated roofs. They are nearly all modernised inside with central heating, many are listed buildings and cannot be altered externally.
DeleteWhat a lovely place. I'm actually intrigued to see this one in colour.
