Day 19. Lord's Court, circa 1697.
Today we are back at Broadclough, there are so many old buildings there. This is Lord's Court, built at the same time as the other building at Broadclough. It belonged to the Lord Family another well-to-do family in the days of yore. I am not sure if this is where the family lived or is so named because they built it. There was a public house in front of it, now demolished to allow for the road widening. Two dwellings in this building the one on the right, with the wider window, was a shop. Later becoming a fish and Chip shop and a grocers. The roof covering is from stone slabs, extremely heavy, the walls are single stone, very cold in winter and retain the heat in summer. The houses behind are of similar construction and of the same date, but several have had vestibules built in front of the front door. The River Irwell runs behind on it's way to Manchester.

  1. Seems like it's not the most comfortable place to live with the stone actually doing the opposite of what you'd want even though it looks quite inviting.

  2. It seems like the modern car parked out the front doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the scene.
